Imaging

Our research centre is dedicated to developing quantitative neuroimaging techniques for assessing brain function and metabolism under various conditions.

This multifaceted approach is aimed at discovering non-invasive biomarkers for the early detection, accurate diagnosis, and longitudinal monitoring of disease progression and recovery. We use multi-modal neuroimaging techniques to probe the underlying physiological mechanisms of various psychiatric disorders. Furthermore, we use MRI-based methods to assess blood-brain barrier permeability and its implications in disease. Other advanced MR methods such as diffusion MRI and MR spectroscopy (MRS) are used to investigate the brain's microstructure and metabolite dynamics. This allows us to develop hypotheses about their role in disease. Another major area of research is the advancement of Low Field MRI with a focus on improving the image quality and developing cutting-edge acquisition and processing protocols for providing reliable diagnostic data on patient populations, especially for those with limited access to MRI. This aligns with our center's global engagement in advancing MRI research and clinical applications in low-resourced countries, particularly in Africa. We are also committed to training the next generation of MRI experts. Our MRI facility is within the Clinical Imaging Sciences Centre.
