Biography

Dr Bouyagoub is a researcher with a background in Engineering, Image and video processing, and quantitative MRI. Samira received a Masters of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Bristol, and PhD degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the same institution. After working as a software developer at Dorset Software ltd, Samira joined Kent and Canterbury Hospital’s Neurosciences department in 2012 as a Postdoctoral researcher. Her research focused on quantifying MRI changes within the deep grey matter for Dementia Diagnosis.

In February 2015, Samira moved to BSMS to join the Medical Physics team at the Clinical Imaging Sciences Centre (CISC) where she is carrying out research on quantitative MRI. She also provides software and hardware support and maintenance for the fMRI research equipment at CISC, both for stimuli and recording physiological signals.

RESEARCH

Samira is based at the Clinical Imaging Sciences Centre, as part of MRI Physics group led by Prof Mara Cercignani. Her research is focused on quantitative MRI particularly diffusion MRI, a technique that measures microstructural properties of tissue. She is currently working on multimodal tissue modelling approach by combining diffusion MRI and relaxometry to further disentangle changes to brain tissue properties.
