Healthy Ageing and Dementia

Healthy Ageing and Dementia at BSMS aims to advance research into various aspects of ageing in a UK region with a high prevalence of old age and a corresponding high rate of dementia disorders.

Our focus is to help improve the quality of life for older people in general as well as those with mild cognitive disorders and dementia, including cares. To this end, our research revolves around population and data-based studies, the use of technology for supporting patients, prevention, and clinical trials. We also deliver novel educational programmes directed at staff, medical and nursing students alike. We also work with many regional partners including NHS Trusts, Universities, commissioners, NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) KSS and CRN KSS. This ensures that all our activities remain anchored in a multi-disciplinary approach and many of our studies are co-designed and co-produced with patients and carers.

Centre for Dementia Studies

The Centre for Dementia Studies (CDS) works to improve the quality of life of people with dementia and their carers by improving the quality of treatment and care they receive. CDS is also home to Time for Dementia, an award-winning programme to develop, deliver and evaluate an innovative educational initiative, a longitudinal programme in dementia.
