Ukrainian medical schools and medical students are being given complementary access to the case-based online medical learning resource, Capsule.
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, medical schools across the country have been working tirelessly to maintain education for their medical students in an extremely challenging situation.
To help support Ukrainian medical schools and medical students, complementary access to Capsule's clinical case-based learning resource will be provided to allow remote teaching and self-learning of our catalogue of medical cases and scenarios.
Developed by Brighton and Sussex Medical School and digital developer Ocasta, Capsule is a unique learning resource that delivers interactive clinical cases with extensive feedback to support the application of medical knowledge to the practice setting. It contains 700+ cases and 3,700 questions, all written by senior clinicians, and is mapped to the GMC curriculum and Medical Licensing Assessment. As all medical cases are written and edited by experienced clinicians, Capsule provides students with realistic and reliable learning content.
Ben Collier, membership director at Capsule, said: "More than 250 Ukrainian medical students have already joined Capsule this month and we are expecting many more in the coming weeks.
“We aim to help these students to continue their education through realistic patient scenarios and we are working with universities across the country to make this happen.”
Professor David Howlett, NHS Radiologist and Clinical Academic Lead at Capsule, added: “It is really important during these difficult times that the medical community around the world does all that they can to support the ongoing provision of medical education in Ukraine. We are pleased to be able to provide free and unrestricted access to Capsule to all undergraduate medical students at Ukrainian medical schools.”
Capsule launched at BSMS in 2016 and has since been rolled out to other medical schools in the UK. In 2020, it received funding from Innovate UK to support the global deployment of the platform and deliver worldwide access to high-quality, case-based learning for millions of medical students and schools.
Ukrainian medical schools that have not joined this scheme can contact the Capsule team here to receive full access to Capsule for students and staff at no charge. If you’re a medical student in Ukraine, please contact your medical school.
