‘Watch’ is a collaboration between a poet, Leah Thorn, and a filmmaker, Ewan Golder, exploring the themes of loss, vulnerability, survival and memorialisation. Using family Super 8 film, poetry, story-telling, photography and found footage, the film reveals the centrality of memory to Jewish identity and the impact of Alzheimer’s on Leah’s relationship with her father.

'Watch' has been selected by film festivals, including the UK Jewish Film Festival.

The film will be followed by a conversation between Leah and Martin Shovel, a local cartoonist and writer, about the autobiographical creative exploration of identity and the use of art as activism.

Biography

Leah Thorn is a spoken word poet and activist who works collaboratively with artists, filmmakers and dancers.

Her background in psychology and peer counselling and 40+ years’ experience of feminism inform her own writing and performance practice and workshop facilitation. She is currently Leverhulme Trust artist-in-residence at the University of Kent and at Canterbury Christ Church University, working on 'Older Women Rock!', a project of older women's liberation.
