"Starting the course with a background in Public Health and also as an international student made me a bit nervous. However, the course leads and lecturers gave me a soft landing to build on through out the course. Supervision for my dissertation took my schooling experience a notch higher and broaden my scope of reasoning. I have acquired lots of skills and also improved in areas I thought I was competent."

"I undertook the MSc Public Health at BSMS as an intercalating medical student in 2018/19. The course taught me multiple skills that are transferable back to clinical medicine as well as in academia. Studying the MSc has allowed me to form connections with both teaching faculty and fellow graduates that have opened new avenues of study and work for me.

I enjoyed the opportunity to study topics more broadly during the taught components of modules and then having the chance to investigate a specific topic of interest in more depth for the assignments and dissertation."

"I am a part time student on the 3 year MSc Public Health programme. I currently work full time as a Screening and Immunisation Manager for Public Health England. I have thoroughly enjoyed the Global Public Health module and the lectures have definitely consolidated my learning and has enhanced my understanding of the challenges faced by high, middle and low income countries in managing global health inequalities.  It was very interesting to see that even in high and middle income countries, health inequalities do exist and how politics play a vital  role in the development of public health policies  and a robust disease prevention and health promotion agenda to improve public health outcomes.

I have been able to appreciate the role of NGOs in addressing some of the health inequalities locally, regionally and nationally. I have benefited so much from the course and I am definitely applying the knowledge gained in my current role supporting the commissioning of resilient public health programmes meeting the needs of our responsible population  to protect them from ill heath thus improving quality of life and reducing the burden of disease.

Thank you to all my lecturers who have done an amazing job delivering such an interesting programme."

"My experience as an MSc Public Health student at BSMS was very exciting and one worthy remembering over and over again. This is not only because I got the chance to meet other students from across the world, but also a fortify my understanding of public health concepts and systems from established academics with a reputation of excellence. Other classroom sessions were taught by leaders from organisations and institutions like Public Health England and City Councils, who are already working in field making significant contributions to solve pressing public health problems, thereby equipping students with advanced knowledge on the latest developments in the field of public health. The MSc Public Health being offered jointly by the University of Brighton and the University of Sussex gave me the opportunity to enjoy a variety of learning resources and supervisors from both institutions.

As an international student, I was able to share my public health research experience with other students and learn from them as well during debates and discussions. The classrooms were always vibrant, lecturers and course tutors gave students the opportunity to ask questions, were always available on contact to discuss and assist with follow up questions. Assessments such as assignments, Ted Talks, Poster Presentations among others corresponded or resembled with what is practically done professionally in the field. Thus, I am now able to walk into any public health research environment with increased confidence in my skills that I acquired during the programme."

"Working full-time in Public Health, this course enabled me to study flexibly and broaden my knowledge in a subject area I felt passionate about. I recognised with my existing qualifications I was unable to progress my career but the Masters at BSMS made it possible for me to start thinking about a future; enabling me to obtain and apply my new found skills in a local government Public Health team."

Matthew worked as a Public Health Principal before starting his MSc in Public Health at BSMS. He achieved a promotion to Public Health Programme Lead, for Healthy Environments during this course and is now exploring further development to become a Consultant in Public Health. He has also applied to return to BSMS to continue his developmental journey.
