Staff development

BSMS endeavours to empower and support our staff by providing development opportunities including mentoring, job shadowing, career progression workshops for academic and research staff and staff development opportunities for all staff.

BSMS staff also have access to a wide range of staff development opportunities at the university of Sussex including workshops, sessions and opportunities to develop skills and knowledge: 

  • Leadership and management programmes
  • Job shadowing
  • Mentoring Learnupon training 
  • Staff training wellbeing and events
  • Peer learning networks

Mentoring opportunities

Academic Research Staff

Mentoring plays a key part in career progression so we encourage all staff to take part. BSMS offer a one-to-one mentoring scheme for academic and research staff which is open for applications from both mentees and mentors at the start of each academic year. Please email inclusivity@bsms.ac.uk for further information. 

Professional Services Staff

As well as the internal BSMS scheme which caters for academic and research staff, all staff can apply to be mentees or mentors in the University of Sussex or University of Brighton mentoring schemes. Full details are available via the links below.
