Name: Beatrice Ramunno
Job title: Research Coordinator
Year started at BSMS: 2024

Tell us a bit about your background

I grew up in Italy, where I graduated with a degree in Nursing from the University of Florence. In 2018, I moved to the UK and began my career as a nurse. I have always enjoyed both academic work and research work. As a neonatal nurse, I authored a couple of articles on neonatal nursing practices. In 2022, I completed the Multi-Professional Fellowship with BSMS and HEE KSS and earned a PGCert in Leading Practice Education from Brighton University. Afterward, I moved to the next chapter of my career by joining BSMS as a Research Coordinator.

What’s your role like day-to-day?

No two days are alike in my job. I provide administrative support for a range of School research functions, working closely with the School Research Manager and the Director of Research and Knowledge Exchange. I also act as a link between professionals and external stakeholders. Additionally, I organise research activities such as workshops and events, to foster a positive research culture, and I collaborate with the Communications team to accurately maintain the School’s research webpages.

What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?

There are many aspects of this role that I love. I enjoy having a variety of tasks and responsibilities, which means the role is never boring. I also appreciate the opportunity to connect with professionals and help them thrive in their careers. I am proud to be behind the scenes, supporting researchers as they develop and share their groundbreaking discoveries. Lastly, coming from a background of long days and night shifts, I really value the occasional work-from-home day!

In terms of successes, which accomplishments are you most proud of?

Moving to the UK by myself at the age of 23, I am very proud of building both a career and a life in this beautiful country. Moreover, earning my PGCert qualification through an English-taught course and writing essays in my second language are achievements I take pride in.

Tell me something about you that most people don’t know about you.

I speak English, Italian and Spanish. At 20, I spent time in Spain as an au pair, which was a wonderful life experience. Also, in 2022 I featured on my favourite Italian radio show, where I was on-air for an entire week!

What are your other interests / hobbies?

I love reading, and you can very often find me at the library searching for rom-com novels! I am also quite active - I enjoy yoga, Zumba, and dancing. Hiking is another passion of mine, and in October 2023, I completed the Everest Base Camp trek, reaching an altitude of 5,364 metres.
