Brighton and Sussex University Hopsitals NHS Trust

Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust (BSUH) provides district general hospital services to a local population of 460,000. It also provides a range of specialist services including cancer services, neurosciences, cardiac surgery, renal services and intensive care, to a population of approximately 1,000,000.

BSUH employs over 6,500 staff with an annual budget of over £550 million. It manages around 900 beds and provides the majority of its services from:

  • The Royal Sussex County Hospital campus (including the Sussex Eye Hospital) in Brighton
  • The Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital in Brighton
  • The Princess Royal Hospital campus (including the Hurstwood Park Centre) in Haywards Heath

BSUH has been awarded £420 million for the redevelopment of the Royal Sussex County Hospital. The redevelopment is part of the 3Ts programme (trauma, tertiary, and teaching), which includes the expansion of services for seriously ill and injured patients, as well as further development of the hospital’s teaching facilities.

Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust

Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust provides specialist mental health, substance misuse and learning disability services. They are an integral part of the health and social care network for the people of Sussex.

East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust

East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust provides acute hospital and community health services for people living in East Sussex. It mainly provides services at two district general hospitals, Conquest Hospital and Eastbourne District General Hospital, as well as various minor injury, birthing, outpatient and community services throughout the county.   

East Sussex Healthcare Trust is one of the largest organisations in the county, employing over 7,000 dedicated staff with an annual turnover of £365 million.

Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust

Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust provides acute and complex services at East Surrey Hospital, as well as a range of outpatient and diagnostic services at Caterham Dene, Crawley and Horsham hospitals, and Oxted Health Centre. It employs around 3,500 people and provides healthcare services to a growing population of 535,000.

Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust

Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust serves a population of around 450,000 people across a catchment area covering most of West Sussex. The Trust runs three hospitals: St Richard's Hospital in Chichester, Southlands Hospital in Shoreham-by-Sea, and Worthing Hospital in the centre of Worthing.

It was created in 2009 by a merger of Royal West Sussex NHS Trust and Worthing and Southlands Hospitals NHS Trust, and became an NHS Foundation Trust in 2013.
