The BSMS Capsule learning resource has been awarded an E-Learning Excellence Award for its work supporting medical students across the UK during the pandemic.
The unique case-based platform was one of twelve shortlisted initiatives from across the globe covering a wide range of higher education and industry training contexts. The finalists presented at the European Conference for E-Learning 2022 in October, hosted by the University of Brighton, and Capsule was selected as the second-place E-Learning Excellence Awards Winner 2022.
The case study was a joint submission between BSMS and Imperial College London, who were instrumental in delivering Capsule to all UK medical schools in 2020. The submission was led by Prof David Howlett and Dr Nadia Mahmood and presented at the international conference by Dr Chee Yeen Fung (Teaching Fellow at Imperial).
Tim Vincent, Senior Learning Teachnologist at BSMS, also a co-author, attended the conference and said: "We are extremely pleased that the Capsule learning resource was given this award by ECEL (alongside other strong initiatives).
"We feel it recognises the large collaborative effort put in by the medical educator community to support clinical students nationally during the Covid lockdown crisis and demonstrates the value of investing in high-quality digital resources for our learners. We are pleased that Capsule continues to support students not only at BSMS but at the majority of UK medical schools and in other countries too."
Capsule continues as a core learning resource for students at BSMS, including the Physician Associates, to support the application of knowledge to the clinical setting. It is being used as a learning resource at over half of UK medical schools and some international schools, including being free of charge to Ukrainian medical schools and schools in Sub-Saharan Africa.
