About this session

Join BSMS for this special event celebrating Black History Month.

This year’s Black History Month theme is 'Reclaiming Narratives', and we are thrilled to have Patrick Nyikavaranda discuss his journey through academia and healthcare, in conversation with Dr Neil Singh.

Patrick Nyikavaranda is an NIHR-funded researcher based in the Department of Primary Care and Public Health at Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS). He is also the Managing Director of Diversity Resource International. With extensive experience in addressing health and social inequalities, Patrick has made significant contributions to the field of community-led research, particularly in supporting the mental health and wellbeing of vulnerable populations, including female migrants.

Patrick holds a senior position at University College London as the co-lead of the NIHR-funded Mental Health Policy Research Unit’s Culture, Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion and Involvement strands. His work bridges academia and community practice, and he lectures on health inequalities at several universities. Patrick collaborates widely with clinicians, academics, and community organisations to drive meaningful policy change.

His journey reflects a commitment to empowering marginalised voices and influencing the landscape of healthcare and research for a more equitable future.

This event celebrates Black History Month at BSMS and is free and open to all to attend.

Please register now on Zoom to guarantee your space. The online session will last for one hour, with the chance to ask questions after Patrick and Neil's conversation.
