A Day in the Life of a Foundation Year 1 Doctor

About this session

In June’s monthly lecture, Dr Oliver Pentz will provide an overview of what a typical day looks like for a Foundation Year 1 doctor (FY1). He will discuss different aspects of the role, including medical days, surgical days and on-calls, as well as exploring the things that he wishes he had known before starting.

Dr Oliver Pentz attended BSMS for 5 years, with an intercalation year in Neuroscience at Sussex in-between, and graduated in the class of 2023. While at medical school he was involved in the BSMS Medic Revue and was MedSoc President for 2020/21 and 2021/22. Dr Pentz is currently working as an FY1 doctor at the Royal Liverpool Hospital, having completed jobs in Psychiatry, Urology, and currently working on a Respiratory ward. He hopes to complete an F3 year in Australia, before starting specialty training in Paediatrics. Outside of medicine, one of Dr Pentz’s proudest achievements is having qualified for and competed in the Pokémon Go European Championship this year.
