About this Event

What do radioactive chapatis and Black maternal health outcomes have in common? Join Annie from the anti-colonial campaigning group Speaking Statues to find out more, on a journey into the past and present of England’s healthcare system.

This event will begin with a personal reflection from Annie on her experiences in healthcare and an overview of anti-colonialism and how it differs from decolonisation. Annie will then highlight important global figures who have worked towards an anti-colonial healthcare system and invite attendees to envision what a truly anti-colonial healthcare system would look like in England.

Celebrate Black History Month 2023 by learning about inspiring anti-colonial figures, challenging the status quo and imagining a better future!

This free event is run by Brighton and Sussex Medical School to celebrate Black History Month and is open to all staff and students.
