About this session
Interventional Radiology is the speciality of minimally invasive, image guided surgery that has completely changed the treatment options for many emergency conditions such as major trauma, ruptured aneurysms and internal bleeding.
This is a new speciality that has developed from nothing over the past 40 years, driven by developments in cutting edge equipment, new device technologies and new methods of imaging the body.
This talk will look at some of the exciting new procedures that we can now perform through tiny incisions, embracing the new world of nanotechnology. We will also look to the future with the development of modern targeted cancer treatments.
This lecture is part of the Brighton and Sussex Medical School's Monthly Lecture Series, designed for secondary school and college students. This lecture series, running from November 2020 through to July 2021, provides a unique opportunity for students to learn more about different aspects of medicine, career pathways, and how to get into medicine.
