Homelessness has increased dramatically in recent years, causing huge strain on the NHS, social services and the housing sector. It has huge impacts on those affected, with significantly higher numbers of mental and physical health problems amongst homeless people and rough sleepers. Why has homelessness increased so much? Why does rough sleeping affect peoples’ health so negatively? How can we help?
Please join us for the first BSMS Homelessness Conference, which will explore reasons why and how people become homeless, chief concerns for those working in homelessness and why health should be our main priority. This will be an introduction to homelessness and its surrounding issues, covering areas such as drug and alcohol abuse, domestic abuse and refugees. We hope to see you there.
The conference is hosted by BSMS HoMed. HoMed is Brighton & Sussex Medical School's homeless medicine society, which aims to improve healthcare for homeless people and other vulnerable groups by improving the understanding and skills of future doctors. We do this through educational events, volunteering and fundraising.
If you have any queries, then please email us at bsms.homed.conference@gmail.com and include your name and ‘Question’ in the subject heading..
