Prof Couso will be giving a talk about his recent work entitled Small Is Beautiful: a novel class of genes encoding peptides involved in development and disease.

There will be a buffet lunch after the seminar, followed by an opportunity to discuss potential collaborations. If you would like to book a mini-meeting to talk with Prof Cousco please email m.dick@bsms.ac.uk in advance.

Professor Couso has previously been Professor of Developmental Genetics in Life Sciences at the University of Sussex and is joining the faculty at Brighton and Sussex Medical School. Professor Couso is a highly regarded research scientist focussing on developmental genetics and the study of genes with short open reading frames and putative long no-coding RNAs using the Drosophila melanogaster model system.

Professor Couso has joined BSMS with his research group and will be transferring a 3 year BBSRC grant which runs from January 2016. He also has ongoing funding as a senior research fellow with the Wellcome Trust and extensive and national and international collaborations.

Professor Couso’s future position will be held jointly between BSMS and the Spanish CSIC (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas) and this will foster links between the two institutions.
