Alice Roberts is a well-known anatomist, osteoarchaeologist, anthropologist, television presenter, author, Professor at the University of Birmingham and a BSMS honorary graduate who has features in TV programmes such as Coast and The Incredible Human Journey.

Public Lecture at ACCA

In this public lecture, she will take us on a journey to help us understand how we develop as an embryo, from a single egg into a complex body, and how our embryos contain echoes of our evolutionary past. Bringing together the latest scientific discoveries, Professor Roberts will illustrate that evolution has made something which is far from perfect.

Tickets for the lecture only are free.

Welcome dinner for Brighton and Sussex Medical School students, their guests, alumni and staff members.

Following the lecture, a three course dinner with wine will be served at Bramber House, a short walk from the Attenborough Centre lecture venue.

The menu for dinner will be a starter of pan fried quail breast with asparagus, carrots, radish, cannellini beans, extra virgin olive oil lemon dressing. Main course of slow-cooked short-rib of beef, salsa verde, carrot puree, braised shallots and sugar snaps.  Dessert will be baked soft centred chocolate fondant with vanilla ice cream served with coffee & chocolates.

If you would prefer there is also a vegetarian menu of pea panna cotta, roasted beetroot, lovage soup, pea shoots and pansies with a main course of grilled polenta, savoy cabbage, red onion and goat’s cheese cannelloni, tomato and caper dressing.
