Biography

Dr Tom Ruffles graduated from St George’s University of London in 2008 and completed his paediatric specialty training through the Kent, Surrey and Sussex deanery and undertook a two-year paediatric respiratory fellowship at the Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane, Australia. In August 2019 he was appointed Senior Clinical fellow at Brighton and Sussex Medical School and Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine at Brighton and Sussex University Hospital NHS Trust.

Research

Dr Ruffles, primary research interests are in relation to the management of chronic cough in children and personalised medicine prescribing in young people’s asthma. He is collaborating with researchers from Brighton and Sussex Medical School, The University of Dundee and The Queensland Children’s Hospital.

Teaching

Dr Ruffles is lead for the Long-term Conditions module of the MSc in Paediatrics. He teaches in the Paediatric Modules of the BSMS curriculum and takes part in OSCE examinations.
