Biography

Qi Ying Lean completed her Bachelor in Pharmacy (Hons) at the University of Malaya, Malaysia and obtained a Master and PhD in pharmacy from the University of Tasmania, Australia. Qi started her career as a hospital pharmacist in Penang General Hospital. She then secured an academic position as a pharmacy lecturer at the Faculty of Pharmacy, training pharmacy technicians and pharmacists in Malaysia. She was also involved in research covering both the academic and pharmacy fields. She serves as editor or reviewer of a few peer-reviewed journals, and is a member of the panel of Malaysian medical research ethics committee.

Research

Qi has involved research both in clinical and laboratory. She worked on preclinical drug discovery for inflammatory bowel diseases using cell-based culture and an animal model of colitis. She is keen to learn about patients’ medical challenges and needs. Her research activities are also directed towards the development in educational situations among the students and patients.  

With her passion, interest and commitment to advancement of the understanding of human health, she continues to work on strategies to improve knowledge in medical sciences, health self-management, treatment of chronic diseases and cancers.
