Research

Dr Elle Whitcroft completed her PhD at Sussex University in 2023 in the Media, Arts, Humanities Department. Her thesis was entitled ‘Re-contextualizing Winsor McCay’s “Little Nemo in Slumberland”: Picturing Race, Immigration, and Childhood in Newspaper Comic Strips’, which explores political rhetoric in comic strips and newspapers.

Following this, Elle won a UKRI Healthy Longevity Global Competition grant of £62,500 to act as Principal Investigator of the Between LGBTQ+ Generations project, a research and wellbeing intervention that used creative arts to connect LGBTQ+ intergenerational communities.

Elle’s research interests include bringing together creative arts, arts engagement, and other participant-centred methods to better understand LGBTQ+ intergenerational connection and healthy ageing. Her research spans across visual arts, public health, and the humanities.

Teaching

In the Autumn 2024 term, Elle will teach creative methodologies across Research Methods modules at BSMS.
