Biography

Deeptima is the Research Manager of Brighton and Sussex Medical School based at University of Sussex.

Deeptima works closely with Director of Research, Director of Knowledge Exchange, REF Lead and Early-Career Researcher Lead in further developing the school's research environment and strengthen research capacity. She is responsible for supporting colleagues in developing interdisciplinary collaborative research. She is instrumental in implementing the Impact and Knowledge Exchange strand of the School's Research Strategy alongside supporting network building, strategic external and internal partnerships and Impact engagement activities. Deeptima works closely with Faculty and Early-Career Researchers incorporating awareness of research impact, open access and public engagement into their research aspirations.

Prior to working at Brighton and Sussex Medical School, Deeptima was the operational lead of preparations for the Research Excellence Frameworks (REF2021 and REF2014), the UK’s national funding exercise, in two different schools across social science and science disciplines at University of Sussex. Together with the UoA Leads, she led the coordination and submission of REF reporting, monitoring and supporting all aspects including mock audits, drafting Environment statement narratives, supporting Impact Case Study Leads and part of the group supporting the review and selection of publications.

Deeptima has extensive knowledge and experience in contributing to the development of research environment, editing impact case studies, writing web contents for research pages and in supporting and raising the profile of all researchers.

In 2022, Deeptima was awarded the Professional Services Impact Champion Award for University of Sussex by PVC for innovative leadership in professional services that supported expanded capacity and creativity in generating research impact.
