Biography

Daniela obtained her BSc in Biomedical Sciences (2005) and her MSc in Infectious Diseases and Molecular Biology (2009), both at the Federal University of Sao Paulo (UNIFESP), becoming a specialist in molecular biology while studying the genetic variability of Brazilian HIV strains.
In 2008, she also started working as a Biomedical Technician in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Parasitology at the same university, mainly running the flow cytometry facility placed at the Immunology Division. Working as a senior flow cytometrist until 2022, Daniela evolved strong experience in diverse flow cytometry and cell sorting approaches, also being involved in several interesting research topics, which contributed to a diverse network of collaborators and research groups.

An extensive collaborative work in the Immunomodulation lab (Immunology Division, UNIFESP) allowed Daniela to complete her PhD in Microbiology and Immunology in 2018, evaluating the improved immunogenicity of different HIV vaccines when associated to a biologic adjuvant in experimental models, what led to a continued work as a postdoctoral researcher of the same group until 2022.

In 2022, she moved to BSMS as a postdoctoral research fellow to join Professor Florian Kern's research team, whose work spans basic and clinical immunology, focusing on protective and damaging effects of immunity in infection and ageing. Daniela’s role in his group is to contribute in studies around the use of peptides and peptide pools in T-cell responses, understanding the role of molecular interactions that drive the immune response in infection and autoimmunity.

Research

Daniela pursues mainly laboratory-based translational research, involving modulation of the immune response and the effects of immunity in infection, ageing, autoimmune disorders and cardiovascular disease.
