Anatomy demonstrator

We are inviting applications for the dual position of Anatomy Demonstrator and Resident Medical Officer (RMO) from enthusiastic individuals who are keen to play an important role in our students' development through guidance, support, and delivery of high-quality anatomical teaching and who want to get involved in research.

The Anatomy Demonstrator position at BSMS is linked to an RMO job at the local Montefiore or Nuffield Health Hospitals, Brighton. This role allows you to get involved in anatomy teaching and research whilst maintaining your clinical skills. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who wish to develop their anatomical knowledge as a basis for further career development. Typically, ou current and previous Anatomy Demonstrators are those who are interested in surgery, radiology, and medical education but anybody is welcome to apply. BSMS is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer or Reader in Public Health to complement the current research strengths in the Department of Primary Care & Public Health. Senior Lecturer is a senior career-grade teaching and research position. The postholder will be expected to provide a point of liaison between the academic department and regional Integrated Care Boards and/or local authorities, and ensure research is aligned to priorities and strategies for improving the health of the population. We especially welcome candidates with research interests in the areas of: health inequalities; population health and prevention; and the health of coastal communities. Post-holders are expected to show academic leadership in both teaching and research, and to support the management and strategic planning processes of the School and the University.

Year 3 Lead for Anaesthetics

Applications are invited for Year 3 Lead for Anaesthetics at BSMS. The successful post holder will be responsible for coordinating the ongoing development and delivery of perioperative medicine and anaesthetic teaching, in close liaison with the module 304 lead, in year 3 of the BSMS course. Module 304 (surgery and peri-operative medicine) is an 11 week rotation based at University Hospitals Sussex in year 3 such that all students rotate through this module. The module aims to further develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes obtained in Phase 1 of the course. There is particular emphasis on developing clinical skills and the understanding of acute and common surgical presentations, their investigation and management, and the integration of this learning with the relevant pathophysiological knowledge. The post holder will be responsible for the innovation of teaching and learning in perioperative medicine as well as the complexity of non-operative management of surgical conditions and learning centered on recognising and caring for unwell patients. The applicant must submit a letter from their Directorate Lead supporting their application and an agreed job plan to accommodate the 1 PA of BSMS time. This position focuses on teaching and learning in the medical undergraduate curriculum. A key responsibility of this position is to lead the BSMS mentor programme which involves registrars supporting 4th year medical students. The post-holder will support all years of medical students in the personal and professional development (PPD) module, and on clinical placement appropriate to their specialty, as well as with other forms of teaching and supervision. The post-holder will lead the careers week for students in years 2-4.

Based at the Medical Teaching Building, on the University of Sussex Falmer campus, the post-holders will play a key role in the delivery of the Medical undergraduate degree programme. The post-holder reports to the Curriculum and Assessment Manager but works closely with members of BSMS Faculty and administrative colleagues particularly those in the Curriculum Support Team. In addition, the post-holder will liaise with appropriate colleagues in other administrative and academic units in the parent universities, and colleagues in the partner NHS Trust.
