The key roles of the Medical Education Unit at BSMS are:

  • responsibility for the delivery of undergraduate medical education;
  • provision of support and advice to all staff, both NHS and University employees, involved in the learning and teaching at the Medical School

The unit comprises a multi-disciplinary team of professionals from across the Medical School and aims to provide a supportive environment for the nurturing and continuing development of all those who teach as well as pushing the boundaries to new and innovative methods.

The work of the unit largely focuses on the following areas:

  • Curriculum development
  • Peer observation of teaching
  • Support for methods of teaching and learning to all tutors, including clinical, non-clinical academic staff
  • Development of interprofessional learning
  • Development of technologies that facilitate and support the learning of staff and students alike
  • Widening Participation
  • Research and publications in the field of medical education
